Simplified Employee Pension (SEP)
This low-cost retirement plan is designed for small businesses, self-employed individuals, and professional partnerships. Since SEP contributions are discretionary and the percent of contribution may vary each year, it’s an appropriate choice for business owners with variable profits. SEPs combine the higher contributions allowed in traditional pension and retirement plans with the simplicity and cost of an IRA. (Note that SEPs do not allow for employee contributions.)
A SEP plan is designed for employers looking to avoid high administrative costs and hassles, but seeking the tax breaks provided by a qualified retirement plan. Deferred Compensation Plans
A deferred compensation plan allows key employees to defer taxable wages or bonuses until a specific future date – usually retirement. At that time, the employee may be in a lower tax bracket and therefore will owe less in taxes than when the compensation was earned.

Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLEs)
This low-cost, tax-favored retirement plan is designed for employers with 100 or fewer employees and no other qualified retirement plan. Since SIMPLE employer contributions are mandatory, it is an appropriate choice for business owners with predictable profits. With this type of plan, employees can also contribute to their own retirement plan with possible tax advantages. (Other plans, such as SEPs, do not allow employee contributions.)
