Our History
We're a True Community Bank
Established in 1917, First State Bank has played a major role in Macomb County’s growth over the last nine decades. Today, we offer exceptional banking products and the most advanced technology, but are most proud of our friendly, personal service – it's the same as the day we opened.
90+ Years of Growing with Macomb County
In an industry where mergers and acquisitions seem to occur daily, we’ve provided our customers with high-quality service and solid financial solutions for over 90 years. We are locally owned and operated, with 11 branches to serve our Macomb County customers. Local ownership means local decisions. It means services tailored to meet the specific needs of you, our customer. As deposits within the bank grow, we continually reinvest in the community in the form of loans to individuals and businesses.
First State Bank History

We opened our doors at the corner of 9 Mile and Gratiot in 1917 as the Halfway State Bank, the first bank in the village of Halfway (now Eastpointe). In 1929 we changed our name to First State Bank. In our 90+ year lifetime, we've endured the challenges of two world wars, the Great Depression and witnessed the arrival of television, penicillin and computers. As Macomb County developed to become the third largest county in the state, we grew right along with it.
FSB Commitment
Throughout the bank's history, the word that is consistently used when employees and customers refer to the bank is "family." Whether you are opening an account, closing a loan or discussing investment options, we know it means so much more than mere dollars and cents; we are helping families realize their plans and dreams. The employees at First State Bank are more than just your bankers – we're your neighbors. As a true community bank, we actively support national and local service organizations, charities and cultural events. First State Bank is neighbors helping neighbors – and that means you come first.
First State Bank's Future

We are committed to the future growth of the Macomb community and will continue to support its progress by providing the latest in banking technologies and services. At the same time, we remain grounded in the commitment to superior, personal customer service we began over 90 years ago: we know our customers by name. Our vision for the future is continued success based on this simple premise: that we will grow in ways that let us do more for the businesses and families here in our hometown.
